Regulatory Approval in the Cayman Islands
Blockchain.com announced that the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) has granted it a virtual asset service provider (VASP) licence. The formal approval came on 22 July 2026, following a conditional endorsement issued in December 2025.
Scope of the New Licence
With the licence, the company can now operate regulated custody services within the Cayman Islands. It also expands its capabilities to include both crypto‑to‑fiat and crypto‑to‑crypto exchange operations.
Company’s Regulatory Track Record
Blockchain.com has been registered as a VASP in the Cayman Islands since May 2022. The recent licence builds on a series of regulatory milestones: the firm secured a Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA) licence in Europe and completed registration with the United Kingdom’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Co‑CEO Commentary
Lane Kasselman, co‑CEO of Blockchain.com, emphasised the importance of regulation for the industry’s future. He noted that “robust regulation is essential for the long‑term development of digital assets, and these approvals strengthen our capacity to serve customers across the region.”
