Interactive Brokers Adds SafetyPay to Latin American Funding Toolkit
Interactive Brokers has announced the launch of a new account‑funding method for its clients across Latin America. The broker has partnered with Paysafe’s SafetyPay platform, which allows eligible customers to transfer money straight from their personal bank accounts using the local currency of the country where they reside.
How the Partnership Expands Payment Options
The new integration builds on a broader partnership between Interactive Brokers and Paysafe that was previously extended to eight Latin‑American markets. The collaboration now includes a range of locally preferred payment methods and direct bank‑transfer options, giving traders a more convenient way to add capital to their accounts.
Immediate Access to Global Products
Once the funds are deposited, traders can immediately trade a full suite of instruments—including equities, options, futures, foreign exchange, bonds and mutual funds—across more than 170 markets worldwide. The addition of SafetyPay therefore not only simplifies the funding process but also keeps the broker’s expansive product offering available to a larger regional audience.
CEO Highlights Simplification of Funding
Milan Galik, Interactive Brokers’ Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the goal of making the funding experience “straightforward” for Latin‑American clients. He noted that SafetyPay provides a “simple way to transfer funds from local bank accounts” and highlighted the broker’s ongoing commitment to adding further local payment solutions to streamline account top‑ups.
Continuation of Funding Innovation
This announcement follows earlier initiatives by Interactive Brokers aimed at reducing funding delays. In 2021, the firm introduced a Request‑for‑Payment service in the United States, allowing investors to deposit money into their brokerage accounts around the clock as an alternative to conventional bank transfers. The SafetyPay rollout is another step in that direction.
Broader Market Moves in Latin America
The expansion of local funding options is part of a larger trend among brokers seeking stronger footholds in Latin America. Earlier this year, CFI obtained a Brazilian licence and opened a representative office in Colombia, while Polish broker XTB also secured regulatory approval to operate in Brazil. Interactive Brokers’ new funding capabilities position it competitively within this rapidly growing region.
Looking Ahead
Interactive Brokers has signalled that it will continue to broaden its payment infrastructure in Latin America, adding more local options as they become available. By aligning with regional payment providers like Paysafe’s SafetyPay, the broker aims to reduce friction for traders and support its global market access strategy.
