A Senior Exit From IG's Greater China Desk
Karman Wong is set to depart IG Group for a role at Trade Nation, where she will take on the position of Commercial Director, Emerging Markets. The move, first reported by Finance Magnates, has not been publicly confirmed by either firm as of publication.
Wong is Australia-based, aligning with the geography where Trade Nation conducts its regulated brokerage operations through Trade Nation Australia Pty Ltd, which holds an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL 422661) issued by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
Her career at IG was built almost entirely around the Greater China region. She entered the firm in 2013 as a sales trader, was elevated to Vice President for China in 2016, and then spent two years working out of IG's Shanghai office. In 2018 she returned to Melbourne, taking on the title of International Business Development Manager for Greater China. From 2020 onward, she served as Head of Emerging Markets APAC, overseeing IG's relationships with clients based in mainland China. In total, her tenure at the broker stretched beyond 13 years, with more than six of those spent in her final role.
A Targeted Hire for Australia's CFD and FX Segment
Trade Nation's footprint in the Asia-Pacific region is concentrated almost exclusively in Australia, where it vies for the same pool of active CFD and foreign-exchange traders that IG attracts. The key product differentiator is that Trade Nation offers a narrower, fixed-spread lineup, whereas IG provides a broader multi-asset trading platform.
Bringing in a commercial director whose professional background is centered on sourcing and managing emerging-markets flow into that specific Australian client base signals a purposeful, region-focused recruitment rather than a generic executive appointment. For traders on both platforms, the hire suggests intensified commercial competition for the same demographic of retail FX and CFD participants in the Australian market.
Strengthening the Commercial Leadership Layer
Wong's new role sits alongside an existing senior commercial structure at Trade Nation. Andy Merry has held the Chief Commercial Officer position for well over a decade, and it remains unclear whether the Emerging Markets directorship will report into Merry's organisation or operate as a standalone, regionally focused function.
The appointment also continues a noticeable pattern of IG-linked leadership at the broker. CEO Jon Noble is himself a former senior executive at IG. In November 2025, Trade Nation added Kypros Zoumidou as Managing Director; Zoumidou is another IG alumnus who most recently served as CEO of Capital.com. With Wong's upcoming arrival, Trade Nation will have recruited a fourth senior leader with direct IG connections within approximately a twelve-month window.
What Traders Should Watch
For retail CFD and FX traders in Australia, the entry of a dedicated Emerging Markets commercial director from a rival multi-asset broker may translate into sharper product positioning, tighter spreads, or more tailored onboarding pathways aimed at traders who have historically used IG's Greater China-facing services. Neither IG Group nor Trade Nation had issued a public statement confirming the transition at the time of writing, so further operational details are expected to emerge as the appointment is formalised.
