Introduction
XM has added a new gold trading product, GOLD24-7, which allows retail clients to trade the metal seven days a week. The launch places XM alongside other brokers that have begun offering weekend access to gold, a highly popular commodity on retail platforms.
Expanding Weekend Gold Trading
Gold remains one of the most actively traded instruments on retail trading venues this year. In recent months, several brokers have introduced services designed to bridge the gap between Friday’s market close and Monday’s reopening. Last month, Vantage Markets unveiled its own 7‑day gold CFD, XAUUSD247, and CMC Markets rolled out weekend gold trading earlier in April.
XM’s GOLD24-7 Features
Unlike standard gold CFDs that adhere to conventional market hours, GOLD24-7 permits trading on Saturdays and Sundays, days when the underlying spot and futures markets are closed. XM states that the product is meant to enable clients to react to market developments that occur outside normal trading windows.
Co‑CEO Stavri Morti explained that “markets continue to generate news over the weekend” and that economic data, geopolitical events, and breaking stories can shift sentiment even when exchanges are shut. He added that GOLD24-7 provides “greater flexibility to respond to those developments as they happen, rather than waiting until Monday.”
Industry Context
The retail move toward continuous gold trading follows similar initiatives in the institutional arena. In March, Scope Prime launched DIGIXAU, a continuous gold CFD aimed at institutional investors to help them manage exposure during weekend closures. In June, Match‑Prime introduced 24/7 CFDs on gold, silver, oil, and U.S. indices through its Cyprus‑regulated entity, supplying pricing to brokers rather than retail traders.
Retail products differ from institutional offerings such as LMAX Group’s perpetual gold futures, which were introduced earlier this year and are exchange‑traded. XM’s GOLD24-7 and Vantage Markets’ XAUUSD247 are broker‑priced CFDs specifically designed for retail traders.
Implications for Retail Traders
The addition of 24/7 gold trading gives retail clients a new tool to hedge or speculate on market movements that arise during the weekend. Traders can now adjust positions in response to late‑night news releases or geopolitical developments without having to wait for the market to reopen on Monday. However, the extended hours also mean that traders need to manage risk and liquidity concerns that may arise when underlying markets are closed.
Conclusion
With the launch of GOLD24-7, XM joins a growing cohort of retail brokers expanding their weekend offerings. As gold remains a key commodity for retail traders, the ability to trade it around the clock may become a standard feature in the industry’s competitive landscape.
