CXM Receives Cambodian Regulatory Approval
CXM has been granted a securities and derivatives licence by the Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC), effective 12 August 2026. The authorisation permits the broker to offer its services to Cambodian clients under the nation's regulatory framework for securities and derivatives trading.
Alex Chua, Country Manager at CXM, described the approval as a meaningful step in the firm's broader international expansion plans. He emphasised that the company intends to develop its local operations with a "clear focus on transparency, service quality and regulatory compliance," and stressed a commitment to establishing a lasting presence in the Cambodian market rather than pursuing a short-term opportunity.
The licence also coincides with a product expansion at CXM, most notably the introduction of a round-the-clock gold trading instrument that has been gaining traction with clients since its recent debut.
Cambodia Emerges as a Growing Hub for Licensed Brokers
CXM's entry into the country places it on an increasingly populated register of foreign firms holding SERC approval. Golden FX Link was the first broker to secure a Cambodian licence, obtaining both a central counterparty and a derivatives broker authorisation. ATFX subsequently received its approval in March 2025, assigned Licence No. 040.
CXM has been allocated Licence No. 042, reflecting a register that has expanded significantly since 2017, when industry reporting indicated that only around ten firms held a derivatives licence in the country. The steady growth in licensing activity underscores Cambodia's rising attractiveness to Southeast Asian and global brokers alike.
The country's demographic profile adds to its appeal: with a population exceeding 15 million and more than half of its residents under the age of 25, Cambodia presents a young, digitally connected audience. In recent years the nation has experienced steady economic progress alongside improvements in digital infrastructure, factors that lower the barrier to entry for retail traders accessing international markets.
CXM's Existing Jurisdictional Footprint
The Cambodian licence extends a multi-jurisdictional structure that already spans several regulated markets. CXM's London-based entity, CXM Prime, operates under the oversight of the UK Financial Conduct Authority. Separately, CXM Direct caters to introducing brokers, money managers, and API clients with a multi-asset CFD offering that covers forex, precious metals, and cryptocurrency pairs.
With Cambodia now added to that map, CXM has signalled that its local strategy will prioritise client experience and strict regulatory adherence as it builds out its operational base in the country.
Gold 24/7 Instrument Draws Early Traction
Alongside the regulatory milestone, CXM has rolled out a Gold 24/7 product that enables continuous gold trading, including weekends when traditional spot and futures markets are closed. The instrument attracted approximately 500 traders during its opening weekend and recorded roughly $1 million in trading turnover within the first two weeks of availability.
By the end of its first full month, the product had climbed into the platform's top 20 most-traded instruments, with around 2,000 active traders using it in August. CXM noted that the Gold 24/7 volume represented 2.6% of trading activity relative to crypto assets during that month, a ratio the company cautioned may reflect a temporary spike in crypto interest rather than a permanent shift in client preference.
Industry-Wide Push for Weekend-Accessible Gold
CXM's foray into 24/7 gold trading is part of a broader pattern across the brokerage sector. XM, Vantage, and VT Markets have each introduced similarly named XAUUSD247 products over the past year, while CMC Markets has offered a weekend gold instrument since April. On the institutional side, LMAX Group has added round-the-clock gold exposure to its perpetual futures platform, extending the concept to professional and institutional clients.
The collective move reflects growing demand among traders for uninterrupted access to a key safe-haven asset, regardless of conventional market hours, and positions gold as a round-the-clock instrument on par with the always-on crypto markets.
